Our team at Coastal Contract Hardware has extensive experience with door hardware of all kinds, and we can help you find the hardware you need to get the best performance from your doors. One piece of hardware we will focus on in this article is the kickplates. Kickplates are pieces of metal sheeting installed on the base of doors to protect them from impact damage. In this article, we will go over a few reasons why we recommend adding kickplates to your doors.
- Reduce Impact Damage – As we mentioned above, one reason to install kickplates on your doors is to reduce impact damage. When doors get stuck, most people’s first move to deal with the problem is to kick the door. If this happens often enough, the door will start to show signs of these repeated impacts. Adding a kickplate will help keep your door in better condition in the long term.
- Reduce Wear and Tear – Adding kickplates to your doors will also help reduce general wear and tear. The bottom of a door tends to wear out faster than the middle or top, in the same way that the hems of your jeans fray before the waistband does. When the kickplate wears out, you can replace it with a new one, while the door underneath remains in excellent condition.
- Clarify Direction – Lastly, you can use kickplates to help clarify which way each door swings. In general, kickplates are only installed on the “push” side of a door, because that side takes more impact damage.
