What is a Weather-Strip and Why is it Important?

What is Weather-Strip? Essentially, weather-strip is a thin band of rubber or other materials that is placed around the inside of your door frame. Although it may look humble and unassuming, it actually plays a very important role in keeping your home comfortable, as it helps provide the following:

  • Insulation. Placing weather-strip around the doorframe helps prevent drafts from blowing in, and it also provides a key piece of insulation, protecting a vulnerable area of your home so that it does not take on or lose excess heat. This means that your HVAC system won’t have to work so hard to cool warm air as it blows in from outside, or to heat more air as the heat from your furnace escapes out into a winter’s night.
  • Moisture Protection. Another reason why weather-strip is important is that it helps keep humidity and moisture outside where they belong, too, thus preventing any moisture damage inside your home. If you are interested in renewing the weather-strip around your doors, just give us a call.
